| Ports List FAQ |
| Q.1: What sort of license is the Neohapsis ports list distributed under? |
A.1: The Neohapsis Ports List is Copyright (C) 2001-2002 Neohapsis, Inc. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). For information concerning the GPL's terms and conditions, see GNU.org. |
| Q.2: What do the submission form fields mean? What sort of information goes where? |
A.2: A quick synopsis: Port - The 16-bit decimal (1 - 65335) port number on which the service/trojan you are submitting operates on/over. Protocol - The protocol that the service/trojan you are submitting utilizes to communicate over an IP network. Acceptable choices are TCP, UDP, or if you're not sure, choose the "unknown or n/a" option. Keyword - A short version of the service's name. See the ports list for examples. Description - A concise description of the service/trojan. Often this is just the full name of the service/trojan. Email address - Your email address. If you don't have an email address, please provide another means of contact in the "Comments" field. We'll need to contact you if there is an issue with your submission. Comments - Anything else you want to tell us? Do it here. The more information you supply in the comment field, the less time it takes us to verify and add the submission :-) |
| Q.3: Why did we put this list together? |
A.3: One main reason: There isn't another list that we know of that is quite like it. As a merger of many other port lists, including the IANA list, the Nmap list and numerous small trojan/game/misc lists we've collected over the years, we feel that it is a unique and helpful resource for the community. |
| Q.4: Is the list searchable? What formats is it available in? |
A.4: The good folks at incidents.org have created a search engine for the list, as has treachery.net. Thanks to both parties for their efforts. If you would like your own copy of the ports list, the list is downloadable in standard HTML/text format, CSV format, and "/etc/services" format. |
| Q.5: Who deserves thanks for this list? |
A.5: - Everyone who has submitted ports to the list. - Treachery.net and Incidents.org for creating search interfaces for the list - Simovits.com for maintaining an extremely useful (and cool) trojan ports list, from which we have borrowed many o' trojan listing. |
